Get ready for another fun-filled weekend at Monmouth Park Racetrack's Annual Crab Cake Festival in Oceanport, New Jersey. The event is taking place this weekend, August 22nd and 23rd, and The Grand Summit Hotel and Hunt Club Steak and Seafood Grill will once again be participating in this exciting event.

Executive Chef Charles Burke and his team plan to defend their title as The People's Choice Award winners for the best Crab Cake and best "Other" dish.

This year’s Crab Cake offering from Chef Burke and his staff will be an Asian-Infused Lump Crab Cake with Napa Cabbage Slaw and Chili Ginger Dipping Sauce.

The "Other" offering will be the return of the Spicy Shrimp with Chipotle Peppers, Cilantro, and Garlic Lemon Butter.

The doors to the event open at 11:30am and General Admission is $3. We will be competing with 11 other establishments. Samplings are paid for through tickets available at the event and most items are priced around $8. Don't miss North Jersey's most exciting summer event July 24-26 at The Grand Summit Hotel. The First Annual Summit Wine and Food Festival is being hosted at New Jersey's landmark Grand Summit Hotel.

The festival consists of 2 days of gala tastings, cooking demonstrations, wine and cheese discussions and cookbook signings. Guests arrive Friday evening and can begin to hob-nob with their favorite chefs as they wander through the ballroom where the chefs will host tables and serve delicious morsels of signature dishes.

Food Network personality Ingrid Hoffman will join 3-star chefs Douglas Rodriguez of Nuevo Latina cusine, seafood masters Rick Moonen and Dave Pasternack of Esca, hometown favorite David Burke of David Burke and Fishtail.

On Saturday afternoon, a memorable 5-course lunch and a 6-course dinner will be served to 320 lucky ticket holders and the tasting room will be open to all for wine and spirit samplings.

On Sunday everyone lets loose as culinary journalist and personality Josh Ozersky of Citysearch's The Feedbag hosts the First Annual Feedbag Burger Summit. Chefs include 4-star chef Eric Repert of Le Bernadin, Joey Campanero of Little Owl, Michael Psalakis of Anthos, Laurent Tourondel of BLT Burger, "Top Chef" winner Harold Dieterle of Perilla and Mark Bucher of Bgr Joint in Washington, DC

Others in attendance include Craig Koketsu of Park Avenue Spring, Mike Stillman from Smith & Wollensky's, cheese expert Max McCalman, master sommeliers Roger Dagorn, Scott Carney and Eddie Osterland, pastry chef Timothy Horst, Guillermo Pernot of Cuba Libre in Philadelphia and Aaron Sanchez of Paladar and Centrico in New York City.

The entire festival is being put together by sommelier and wine shop owner Ivan Ruiz of The Summit Wine List www.winelistsummit.com. The festival is his dream.

Ticket sales benefit Sage Eldercare, The American Red Cross, Overlook Hospital Foundation, Susan G. Komen for the cure, Bridges, and the Junior League. Tickets can be purchased at www.summitwineandfood.com.

This year's all-you-can-eat buffet includes Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Tomato Coulis, Roast Pork Loin smothered with Peppers, Onions & Mushrooms and Red Wine Vinegar, Herb Baked Chilean Sea Bass & Scallops with Melted Leaks & Garlic Lemon Butter, and Mustard-Rubbed Leg of Lamb with Sauteed Spinach & Roasted Shallot Demi Glace. Dad's are not to be forgotten! The menu is decidedly more masculine for Dad's big appetite. The buffet includes Sliced Flank Steak, Marinated Jumbo Shrimp, Cajun Catfish Fillet, Italian Sausage & Peppers, and Black Angus Burgers. Imported & Domestic Draft Beer Samplers include Boddingtons, Guinness & Sam Adams Lager are available at $12.95 each.

Make sure to stop in and sample Executive Chef Charles Burke's award-winning Crab Cakes. The Pan Fried Lump Crab and Vermicelli Cake with Tomato Relish and Roasted Garlic Aioli took home top honors at last year's competition at Monmouth Park in South Jersey. Our very own Jimmy Thornton, Director of Catering for the hotel has been named Chairman of The New Jersey Restaurant Association. Among the many responsibilities of his new post is spearheading the "Dine Out Often" campaign to promote the $12 Billion industry that employs over 200,000 here in the state.
